Today I Joined A Gang In The Woods
Venue: ESB Substation - Caroline St. (Triskel's temporary exhibition space)
Date: 2nd - 22nd December

Curated by Emma Mahony for Cork Printmakers and Triskel Arts Centre, Today I joined a gang in the woods charts the human condition and its sometimes-painful struggle with existence. At once playful and serious, enchanting and sinister, the narrative-based works brought together in this exhibition, explore our subconscious desires and fears.
The work of Marianne Keating and John Kelly displays a strong awareness of ‘the other’ – namely the viewer, making him or her complicit in a reading of their work. Here the observer becomes observed, instigating a subjective scenario in which the viewers perceive themselves being perceived by others. In contrast, Brid Moynahan, Jo Kelley, Sylvia Taylor, Feargal Cunningham and Noelle Noonan create work that is both introspective and semi-autobiographical in nature, played out in domestic interiors and landscapes.
The exhibition’s title suggests a rite of passage, a possibly sudden decision that brings one along a different path, which may or may not be the right one. A deep-rooted sense of uncertainty and paranoia pervades the work, relating to our memories, identities and even the art institution itself.
